Recommended Free Hosting – or you get what you pay for it

A question I have been getting lately is who do I recommend for free hosting.    Honestly I did not feel the free market needed much review.  Other then one company that tried to spam their affiliate link on my video on YouTube.  000webhost.com, was the spammer.   My own opinion about free hosting is not to expect much, and complaining about free hosting is for suckers.  There is no such thing as a free lunch comes to mind.  One of the last emails I got asked me for which free hosting had the most bells and whistles.  He had complaints about the load time on his site, the speed at which he got support, and too many limits.    Keep in mind he was paying nothing.

I am not going to explore free hosting on who is best

I have no need for free hosting.  I tend to favor having my own dedicated platform be it for business or personal use so I am not exactly the person to ask about shared hosting either.  I only had 4 shared hosting accounts they are all with godaddy.  Other then that I am doing vps and dedicated hosting.  But I am still shopping around for a better provider based on service.

My last host review with kvchosting.com had me looking at their free hosting plans

http://www.kvcwebhosting.com/free-web-hosting.php

** Our Free Web Hosting is different from other free hosting sites. We do not place banner ads or other distractingly big advertisements that might annoy your users. However, we place footer texts that mention our company name and the text size will not be big either. It will only be visible to users who scroll all the way down. Our free website hosting requires a one-time payment to set up your free web hosting. The package includes add-on features such as 3000+free website templates, 70+SEO tools, and rvsite builder. We have more than 10,000 satisfied clients who use our free web hosting services. They have often remarked with amazement about our server speed. We never oversell our free web hosting plan and pride ourselves in maintaining fast and efficient services.

There are flaws in this statement “your users” for one, and they don’t appear to actually have 10,000 clients, let alone 10,000 domains.

They don’t appear to have had any traffic  going on til the second quarter to this year.

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/kvcwebhosting.com#

If you happen to look through kvchosting.com’s free hosting plans you will notice that there is a $4.99, $9.99, and $19.99 set-up fee (called a 1 time fee).  So its not truly free hosting.  Its also a convenient way for kvcwebhosting.com to have your credit card on file.

One last thing.  They offer a 45 day guarntee on their free accounts.  However the terms of service contradict this:

http://www.kvcwebhosting.com/webhosting-terms-of-service.php

Money Back Guarantee

We offer a 45 days money back guarantee to our clients. This is valid only for GENUINE cases and we accept only relevant causes/reasons, for your dissatisfaction with our money back guarantee. Setup fee or add on packages will NOT BE REFUNDED for any hosting plan. It is to be well noted that KVCHosting reserves full rights to inquire about the website demanding money-back guarantee.

Until a further review of 000webhost.com and other free hosts I did not realize how the different the free hosting market has changed since I used Geo-Cities  12 years ago.   There was no getting an affiliate commission for my sign up on geo-cities.

Translation: they reserve the right to not give you money back on a free hosting account

Frankly this is another host that I will have to review a year from now because I have a feeling things are going to change.  I imagine all the traffic they have gotten has come from the award sites.  According to spyfu.com they have spent nothing on goggle adsense.  I imagine they have not spent any thing on advertising anywhere.  Other then ‘biding’ on webhostingstuff.com.

000WebHost.com offers free hosting and you can earn $5 for every visitor that you send

One post that I have found which is proable the best post to explain why you should avoid this company is:

http://www.thecaymanhost.com/hosting-reviews/beware-free-hosting-with-000webhostcom

Its a bizarre setup, after all why would any one pay for visitors to a free hosting service?  Granted there are allot of former  affilates out there that claim that

While my opinion has not changed about free hosting, there are things to look out for.  There is a reason they are paying people to bring new people in.   Even though there are several times I have found the affiliates  are not getting paid.  So much so that there videos about it, tons of posts on forums and blogs.

The next host on my list Awardspace.com offers free hosting

The first thing that comes to mind is I don’t get to see much details in regards to this free account.  Clicking on it brings me to a order form.  Keep in mind the ‘free domain’ is $19.95 if you choose to leave them.  But my post on awardspace.com will explore there free hosting service, and the lack of details in its offering.  The only reason I am exploring this is because they appear on webhostingstuff.com’s top 25 list.

When it comes to free hosting, there really is not much to complain about.  You pretty much risk losing your site at any minute because the reoccuring income is not a motivator in keeping a free hosting customer.  At the same time if they charge a fee, its not truly free hosting.

kvchosting – Is Kvchosting beyond excellence or just a mirage

Kvchosting is the first of seven hosts that find themselves on webhostingstuff’s top 25 list for September 2010. I find myself commenting on the design on hosts, this host is no exception.  Attention to detail says a lot about a host.  Designing a site with colors a person may like is not the same as having a professional design.    The main page has colors that I just don’t like, never mind I like the color blue.  They have awards on the main page with links that do not work as well as a rewards page.  Clearly they want people who come to their site to think that they are a good host.  Using some of the same awards that other companies that claim to be a top host.  So if you have not guessed I am going to review and take apart each award. So the question is what makes them so good.   There not exactly a long term host.

   Expiration Date: 05-may-2013

Keep in mind a creation date does not mean a start date.  One perfect example would be a domain that I bought 10 years ago, and just this week finale came up with a idea for what I am going to do with it.  Yet still that domain does not have an active website.   It could have been months before Kvcwebhosting became active.   At a glance I can tell you I have found reviews of the site from December 2009.  There might be some earlier reviews.  But its so strange for a company that is a year old to have as much or more reviews then HostGator.

Kvchosting awards 2010?

The thing I find funny in this picture is “2010 Hosting Awards?”  Then there is a award dated December 2009 with webhostingdir.com.   Why would there be a question mark?  Is that to indicated that they are not sure they are awards or that they got them this year?

Kvchosting award: Best Supportive Web Hosting

There is no link to where this award came from.

Kvchosting award: About.com

An annoymous review.    It might has well have been faked, after all there is no website to look at.

Kvchosting award: RESELLERRATINGS.COM

Three reviews from three people that don’t show a website.  Reviews were done 8/19/2010, 8/23/2010, 9/1/2010.  Interestingly enough these people never used this site before then.  This appears to be a site where you reveiw websites of any genere that sells online. Something does not seem right here.

Kvchosting award: hostreview.com

Ok so they are the 10th host on the list.  But what exactly was it that made them the 10th host of choice?  Where is the data and numbers.   Simply all there is this:

KVCHosting.com is a center that endeavors to make high-end technologyavailable by providing cheap and affordable quality web hostingpackages. KVC Hosting specializes in web hosting services of variouscategories, and since 2008 have been named as one of the fastest growingweb hosting companies for quality-driven, technology enriched andaffordable web hosting developers.

2008?  Really?  The domain was created May 2009.  How does a webhost offer service before their site existed?

Kvchosting award: webhostingstuff.com

At this time I can’t look at webhostingstuff, as it appears their site is down.  So I will add a comment later.

Kvchosting award: findbestwebhosting.com

Once again another review, this time with just the name Jacqueline, but once again no website.  I have a feeling that this review is the same as the about page.

Kvchosting award: softaculous NOC

No Link on kvchosting, and for that here is what they have posted where a link should be: “We Partner with softaculous” So not an award, or even a review.  Its a partnership, or in this case something to extend the page.

Kvchosting award: Tjoos.com

Once again no link.  For that matter this does not look like a review site.  But all the search engine results looking for kvchosting and tjoos.com has one word in every search engine result on the main page “coupons”.  Any time you see the word coupon and webhost together on a website you can tell that website is an affiliate.

Kvchosting award: castironhostingreview.com

Until today I had never heard of this site, and considering the design, primitive comes to mind.  Perhaps why you don’t see this review site on other webhosts.

Ok here is a site where there are websites in the review, however the ratings are a bit weird and not all are 5 star.  Some which should be all 3 star are somehow 5 star overall.   Some of the three star ratings, have what equates to 5 star reviews.  However one review sticks out:

Web Host: KVCHosting January 10th, 2010
Posted By: nidhi – acid-reflux-symptoms.info
I’ve tried 5 other web hosting companies, none of them can remotely compare with the support and uptme that I’ve received from kvc hosting.

Web Host: KVCHosting January 10th, 2010Posted By: nidhi – acid-reflux-symptoms.infoI’ve tried 5 other web hosting companies, none of them can remotely compare with the support and uptme that I’ve received from kvc hosting.

Is there a problem?  Perhaps its that the creation of the domain name was months after the creation of the review:

Domain Name:ACID-REFLUX-SYMPTOMS.INFO Created On:23-Aug-2010 10:12:01 UTC

I suspect I should look at the other reviews in further detail.  Frankly I can’t wait to get a look at the reviews on webhostingstuff.com.

Kvchosting award: web-hosting-top.com:

I don’t have alot of suspicions of web-hosting-top.com per say.  Though I do think they are long over due for a face lift.  But here is another case of funky reviews.  Not to mention no websites to validate that the reviews were done by users of the service.

Starting from the cpanel hosting to the domain-managing tools, every feature of an ideal web hosting service was present in the package. Personally while writing the review on kvc hosting , I believe that there is no better web hosting.

For some reason there is a rating of 2.5 stars on Customer Relation and 3 stars on features.

Kvchosting award: comparewebhosts.com

Here we find they have one review, though I can’t see it, no idea who did it but I find this text again:

kvchosting.com – established in 2008. Kvchosting.com is a centre where high end technology joins hands with cheap web hosting packages. We are specialized in web hosting of all categories, since 2008 and are named amongst the fastest growing web hosting companies; for more quality driven, technology enriched and affordable web hosting. We have numerous clients, about 10000+ all round the globe, who have trusted our services and have long term hosting plans with us. Our data centre is located in Michigan (US) and the head office is in Oklahoma (US)

No suprise but guess when they joined comparewebhosts.com

Surprise its the same year as the creation of the domain.

In regards to 10,000 plus clients, I refer you back to:

http://www.web-hosting-top.com/web-hosting/web-hosting-top.kvchosting.com-reviews

According to web-hosting-top.com they have 3224 domains.  I have made it a point in the past to clarify that the number of domains does not equal the amount of customers.  In this case its hard to picture that they have 10,000 plus customers.

Kvchosting award: alreadyhosting.com

In the past I made it clear this review site is an affiliate site.  Any site that offers you a coupon clearly is nothing more then a affiliate.  But here is the thing that sticks out to me.

It almost appears that they had no one visiting back in May.

Kvchosting award: thewebhostingdir.com

Two more reviews, once again no websites to validate if these are hosting customers.  But here I see promises of 90 day guarantee.  Sure I have no problem with that.  My problem is I have seen places where its 45 days.  Looking at the main page for Kvchosting, I can’t find anything in regards to if its 45 or 90 days.  Clearly there is a 99.9% uptime.  But the money back guarantee is no where to be found on the main page amongst the many graphics to highlight why you should choose this host.

Kvchosting award: webhostingrating.com

Zero, thats right there is nothing to look at.  There is no reviews.  No endorsements either.  The best there is, is this:

Monitored since:

28 November 2008

Monitored sites:

25

Total days of monitoring:

467 days

Kvchosting award webhostdir.com November / December 2009

I have covered webhostdir in the past, frankly they suck in regards to being a review site because they do not provide one thing and thats proof of how one host is better then another.  This is how they determine who is best:

Every month we rank the 25 most popular companies on Web Host Directory USA .

The “25 Most Popular List” is based on the number of votes a company receives and the amount of times their profile page has been viewed each month. This ensures that every month we provide an up to date list of companies you can trust for your hosting needs.

We offer service providers the opportunity to improve their popularity ranking by encouraging their visitors to vote for them. Our voting buttons can be obtained by logging into www.serchen.com.

So its based off votes (I don’t see who received how many votes) and traffic.  This stinks of massive “fail”.  This does not tell you who to trust, or is there any indicator of quality.

In the end I find the kvchosting awards and reviews questionable

webhostingstuff- September 2010 top 25 list

If you thought I was done reviewing sites that appear on webhostingstuff, you were wrong.  While trying to finish up May and June 2010, I slacked on July and August 2010.   So whatever host was on the top 25  on July – August 2010 will not be reviewed if they are not presently or in the future on webhostingstuff.  This is a company that I should have been following since the beginning when I first created my video.  I never realized til the last few months how flawed the top 25 hosts were.  Some of the hosts belong in the worst hosts lists.  All it took was constant monitoring of their site, despite the many times I get blocked, I have had plenty of volunteers willing to get me the information that I needed.

Webhostingstuff top 1 – 10 most popular hosting companies

1 – 10 on webhostingstuff is a bit mixed from the previous times I have looked.

FatCow is no longer on the top 25, However another of the Endurance International group – iPage.com is still there.  Losing there number 1 spot to Arivixe.  I have to wonder how Arivixe managed that besides for having some terrible reviews they made worse, there a outdated website.  HostGator seems to after I started monitoring moving back and forth between 4th and 5th postion.  Two new hosts that I have not reviewed appear in the 1 – 10 spots.

KVCHosting.com

Awardspace

Webhostingstuff top 11 – 20 most popular hosting companies

Webinternethosting is still there, despite their singe rating they faked.  I had sent an email to Michael Low in regards to this but like in most cases he blocks anyone with any negative aspect to what he is doing.

Three new hosts in the 11 – 20 spot that I have not reviewed

Vexxhost

Hostek.com

Topgreenhost.com (another green host that probable buys green credits)

Webhostingstuff top 21 – 25 most popular hosting companies

Fire Dragon Hosting a site that is the worst designed site I have seen is in the number 22 spot.

Two new hosts to my list

Cyber Host Pro

Banahosting.com

ummm wait.  What the?!?!?! Webhostingstuff has i7net.net in the top 25 again!!!!!

I recently reviewed the problems with this site and for some reason even though the site has not been active for months its the 25th most popular hosting company?

https://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/webhostingstuff-com/i7net.html

I have to wonder how this site is there, and I would be surprised if i7net.net is was paying anything.  I do know that people are paying webhostingstuff via pay pal.  Perhaps i7net.net has not canceled the subscription payment and so this is on auto pilot.  While I7net.net is paying the bare minimum for “advertising” in a bidding war.  It shifts in and out of the 25th postion.

Webhostingstuff the place to go when you really want to gamble with the quality of service for your website

Webhostingstuff – 4 more hosts to the list

I found 5 new sites on webhostingstuff back in June 2010.   But I only reviewed 4, because I could not identify which host may be Plexihost Affordable Web with 100% certainty, because I can not find it in webhostingstuff’s data base by searching for that term.   I should have saved the domain name.   My focus is on hosts that pay to be in the top 25, not the some 10,000 hosts that are listed there.  If I am not 100% certain of who a site is with I will not review them.  That does not mean I will not find out who the site above is later.  Bottom line if you are thinking of buying “advertising” from webhostings stuff, don’t.  There are better ways of getting your company out there then ending up on my list.

So what did I find with these 4 new June 2010 hosts on webhostingstuff

None of the 4 hosts I have reviewed are in a weight category with Hostgator, iPage, Bluehost.  For that matter they are hosts that either not figured out a way to market as many of the sites have lesser search engine rankings then this site.  Keep in mind most of my search engine rankings have been from the last three months.  The video helped but its not the greatest source of traffic.  Its the content I am putting to gather.

ServersandDomains, number 11 on webhostinstuff.com in June 2010

https://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/webhostingstuff-com/serversanddomains.html

No longer at this time on the top 25 list with webhostingstuff.  This company does not offer one thing that I consider to be on any person’s check list of features when ordering a host – a guarantee.  They offer a 21 day risk free trial on hosting, and no other services.  Meaning they bill you for everything else at the time of order and 21 days later they bill you for hosting.   Further to that they are heavily anti-refund policy to the point they will charge you a fee for any charge back you may do.  Even though the only option they leave you to get a refund if service is bad is to do a charge back.

On top of that you have to register with them before you can see how many years you have to sign up for before you get the show cased price on their hosting packages.  This is their way of capturing your email, regardless if you buy service or not.

WebInternetHosting, number 22 on webhostinstuff.com in June 2010

https://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/webhostingstuff-com/webinternethosting.html

They were 19 when I reviewed them, today they are number 20.  Besides for being one of the worst choices in domains.  Scam comes to mind.  The only review they have on webhostingstuff.com, is from a domain that can be found in their Better Business Bureau file.  The review even claimed to have been hosting with webinternethosting for 3 years.  That means they would have had to started hosting with this host as of July 2007 or later.  Clearly impossible as the domain for the review as well as the hosts domain are no older then 2009.

On top of that they are under a Hostgator account, and do not have their own private dns to be a functional reseller.    The humor in this is a Hostgator client on the same top 25 list as Hostgator.

FireDragonHosting, number 23 on webhostinstuff.com in June 2010

https://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/webhostingstuff-com/firedragonhosting.html

Mess, this is the first thing that comes to mind.  A blog / web design profile / personal site with a hosting company in the folds of a very cumbersome site.  I found looking through their profile they had a reseller for a customer, thats out of business.  Looking at the reseller showed me that they were a Wild West Domains reseller.

Also 2 out of the 4 review found at webhostingstuff.com have the owner of FireDragonHosting as the owner.   I am partly suspicious of the reviews because they occurred in relatively short time span  for a small company.  But they may be legit, I say that because there are links on the site where he is trying to get people to rate the site for further awards.

But I fear that the worst of this is that owner is using their Wild West Domain account to purchase what his customers purchases after they buy them from him.  Which is why those two domains are in his name.  Meaning his customers do not have control of their domains.

The claim is that the site is all about the personal touch, and only offering to a limited amount of customers does not make much sense.   Because if he was he would steer clear of the review sites.  Based on his WordPress fees I can tell you that you can get more bang from your buck elsewhere.

i7net.net, number 25 on webhostingstuff.com in June 2010

https://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/webhostingstuff-com/i7net.html

i7net.net is gone.  For some reason they were supposed to be a host you should choose, but they could not even stay in business after getting a top postioning on webhostingstuff.  I knew back in June of this year this was a site  that I should keep my eye on and I was correct.  It goes down with hostdawgs.com as another site that was in the top position but now its gone.

Webhostingstuff gives you 4 more reasons not to trust them

On the main page webhostingstuff states:

Our Top 10 Best Hosting chart features some of the best affordable web hosting deals on the planet. We hope to help you find the perfect web site hosting that suits your budget and webhosting needs.

Below the top 10 are 15 more sites.  It stands to reason Webhostingstuff wants you think that these are 11 – 25 of the bests hosts on the planet.

FireDragonHosting – Is firedragonhosting.com stuck in 1999?

Firedragonhosting, Number 23 in my June 2010 list for webhostinstuff.com and number 23 today.  Another Canadian company, not a plus or minus but a neutral.   This time it seems that this is where someone was into web design that evolved into webhosting.   Thats basically what I had done.

Between the ranking on webhostingstuff and the about pages I am a bit perplexed.   The site design is probable the worst of any webhost or reseller that I have looked at.  Its a mess, a combination of blog, personal site, design site, and a webhosting company some where in between.   Looking at some of the sites in the profile I have to wonder why there has not been something done to bring firedragonhosting of a pre-1999 design into something modern.  Granted most of firedragonhosting’s  designs look more like templates I have seen.

Per John’s own words:

http://www.smartbomb.ca/smbjoom/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=28

I began in 1999 as a small web design company that offered hosting to my clients. I continue to be a small web hosting and design company by limiting the number of clients I service and the number of websites I host on my servers. I do this so I can provide a more personalized and higher quality service for my clients.

So why would he need to have firedragonhosting on the top 25 of webhostingstuff?

Before he was selling through firedragonhosting it was smartbomb.co.  As firedragonhosting was registered in 2006.

   Updated Date: 11-dec-2009
   Creation Date: 11-dec-2006
   Expiration Date: 11-dec-2010

The claim to remain small seems a bit hard to believe in part there is one reseller on the profile.

http://canadaphotohost.com/

But it appears there is no site there, and for that matter generic place holder for this site reveals to me that firedragonhosting is not even a reseller in the tradtional sense that you buy hosting space and sell it, their in a Wild Wild West reseller program.

Firedragonhosting’s webhostingstuff reviews

After my last review where the only review that I could find belonged to the owner of the hosting company, I figured I would look at the 4 hosting reviews on webhostingstuff.com.  What stuck out to me is there were 3 positive reviews July 26 –  31, 2009.  Then one in September 2009.  I have to say that I am skeptical of so many positive, or negative reviews  for a hosting company coming in so close togather.   Especially` for  since Firedragonhosting is a self proclaimed small company.  Webhosting is not like Justin Bieber, in which tons of fans rush into write reviews, and those that can’t stand his singing also rush in to write how they hate him.    Unless of coarse a hosting company has a huge amount of down time.  Even then you still do not see scores of negative reviews that would ever rival any muscian.

Perhaps these are honest reviews.  After all when I was doing webdesign I often bought my customers domains for them.  Its something I don’t recommend.

FireDragonHosting charges for WordPress?

I have never charged anyone for wordpress, in part because I had auto installers.  Though last year our auto-installer had problems and techs had to do it manually.  But it was not like it took my techs hours to do. I considered it good customer relations to not charge for something that took fairly little time to implement. After that rarely did customers ever have anything else to do with WordPress.  I could possible see a small set up fee, no greater then $10.  Not something I would do or recommend.  But I can not see paying a monthly fee for software that is already free. I am not all that technically inclined, but I have been able to keep Word Press updated.  Considering FireDragonHosting is reselling through Wild West Domains, I don’t think its FireDragonHosting thats doing the installing.

My Finale thoughts on FireDragonHosting

Frankly I have no idea what to think about FireDragonHosting.  On one hand its a self-proclaimed small company, that wants to take on a personal approach to offer higher quality support.  On the other they are on webhostingstuff’s top 25 list.  There is no logical reason for this site to be there.  But there award site buttons.  Two of which encourage people to go there to get them voted in (web-hosting-top.com and webhostdir.com).  A small company that proclaims they want to remain small would focus on just their community.  These sites are global, and hitting everyone that speaks English.  I half tempted to believe that when he gets a order he is ordering stuff through his Wild West Domains reseller account.  Which is why two of the customers that may very well have written positive reviews for him, have his name on their domains.  I think that is a rather big nasty mistake.  I have been down the road way too many times where customers lost control of domains because of their webmasters.

Are you considering Firedragonhosting?  Frankly I think you can go else where for cheaper and a more qualified webhosting company that FireDragonHosting.

WebInternetHosting, does WebInternetHosting.com have any real reviews?

WebInternetHosting, Number 22 in June 2010 list for webhostinstuff.com, today they are 19th host.  Webhostingstuff does not know when this site came into existience.  But looking at the bbb record and the domain who is I am going guess between late 2009 and early 2010.

The name alone smacks of redundancy.   Its no surprise that they bought the domain last year, its not a prize winning domain and probable would have never been picked up by any  one with even the smallest sense of marketing.   The design is just as unappealing as the domain name.  They are another company trying to get into the whole environmentally friendly gold foil.  But they are far more limited then any host that I have reviewed on to what makes them green.

WebInternetHosting whois information tells me alot

I don’t think there has ever been a time that I have gotten this much information from doing a whois.

Queried whois.internic.net with “dom webinternethosting.com”…

   Domain Name: WEBINTERNETHOSTING.COM
   Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com
   Referral URL: http://registrar.godaddy.com
   Name Server: NS859.WEBSITEWELCOME.COM
   Name Server: NS860.WEBSITEWELCOME.COM
   Status: clientDeleteProhibited
   Status: clientRenewProhibited
   Status: clientTransferProhibited
   Status: clientUpdateProhibited
   Updated Date: 20-jan-2010
   Creation Date: 02-apr-2009
   Expiration Date: 02-apr-2015

First their not a webhost in a traditional sense:

  1. Host has its own facility
  2. Host is co-located and has own servers.

They are a reseller with hostgator.  At first the only review that they have  made me think it was fake (and it actually was when you read further down).

Due to the bad grammar I had thought that this was a fake review. Considering webinternethosting has only existed as a domain since 2009.  Especially after looking to see where the domain was located.

   Domain Name: DISCOUNTBEAUTYDEPOT.COM
   Registrar: ENOM, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.enom.com

   Status: clientTransferProhibited
   Updated Date: 04-apr-2010
   Creation Date: 22-apr-2009
   Expiration Date: 22-apr-2019

It looked like they were really hosted with hostgator and not webinternethosting.  After looking at the dns of WebInternetHosting I realized this was a reseller not a actual webhost.  But then I found out the owner of discountbeautydepot.com is also the owner of webhinternethosting when I took a look at their better business bureau record.

WebInternetHosting’s  BBB record

After looking at their BBB record I have to say this company is a scam.   Yeah they may have a A rating.  But they faked a review with webhostingstuff, and not a very good review at that.

http://www.bbb.org/atlanta/business-reviews/web-design/wpdesignz-media-in-atlanta-ga-27291029

I can tell you the additional sites found on that list were not around prior to 2009.  Its also been my experience that the BBB contacts companies and asks them when their original start date was.  Clearly the main domain for this company was not around before 2009.

My finale thoughts on WebInternetHosting

Their another greenwashed company trying to market on whole “we are green” because they buy credits.  But in the end there is no proof of those credits.  But there is proof of them faking their only review on webhostingstuff.  If they are willing to fake a review on webhostingstuff, what else will WebInternetHosting fake?

ServersAndDomains – Can ServersAndDomains offer you a guarantee?

ServersAndDomains was on my June 2010 list for webhostinstuff.com. It was one of 5 hosts not on my list from May 2010, but it was not the one that grabbed my attention at the time.  That honor goes to i7net.net. This leaves me with only 4 host to review.  Serversanddomains seems to be one of the most generic of site names, but unlike other sites a more uptodate design.  However the site seems another cluttered mess, too many graphics distract from

Looking at the reviews on webhostingstuff.com you can tell not everyone that has signed up with them was happy.

ServersAndDomains have seriously problem with ControlPanel for hosting – it’s very-very slow

Apparently ServersAndDomains was bought out.

My first quirk with ServersAndDomains

The first thing I wanted to see was how long did I have to pay for to get the $1 a month hosting.  When I clicked I found that this only applied to one domain.  When I clicked on $1 from the main page, I was brought to a page that showed the other unlimited plans.  I clicked on “Order Now!”, which allows me to select between Plesk, cPanel, and Windows with Plesk.  I decided to click on Plesk.  This brings me to a sign up screen.

You have to register before you can actually order an account.  This is not something that I see with other companies.  But what this does is if you decided not to complete your order, even though you registered a user login with ServersAndDomains they can now email you with offers to sign up for service.   In order for me to see how many years I have to pay for to get $1 a month I have to register.   I will not be registering, and I don’t have an email that I want more spam on.   I have to say I am bothered by the fact that they do not disclose up front how many months I have to opt into to get $1 a month.  I know its not a month because credit card fees would eat a huge chunk out of that.

ServersAndDomains offers a 21 day trial

While trying to find how many years I had to register to get $1 a month, I noticed they have a 21 day trial, not a 21 day guarantee.  Or better yet a 30 days.   Anything under 30 days leaves me suspicious.   They state that they do not charge you for hosting for the first 21 days, all other services are billed at the time of order.  Regardless of being free, there is no guarantee period.  Anything less then 30 days should be avoided.

ServersAndDomains offers no refunds

http://serversanddomains.com/corporate/legal/index.php?hosting_tos

Refund and Disputes: All payments to ServersAndDomains are nonrefundable. This includes any one time setup fees and subsequent charges regardless of usage. All overcharges or billing disputes must be reported within 45 days of the time the dispute occurred. If you dispute a charge to your credit card issuer that, in ServersAndDomains’s sole discretion is a valid charge under the provisions of the TOS and /or AUP, you agree to pay ServersAndDomains an “Administrative Fee” of not less than $50 and not more than $150.

I am not sure how they will charge you for doing a charge back.  But clearly they leave no other option then a charge back to get a refund if service does not work.  If they were able to enforce the policy then clearly they would be able to fight the charge back.

Finale thoughts on ServersAndDomains

The refunds and disputes part of the terms of service is the part that makes me say to stay away from this company.  They offer no guarantee period.  Without any way of getting a refund there is no guarantee that you will get the service you paid for.  ServersAndDomains is a company I suggest avoiding.

Hostaz.com another webhostingstuff operation

As I stated I would write a review of hostaz.   In short this is just another “top 10” , the only thing that makes it different is that it belongs to one Michel Low, owner of webhostingstuff.com.    This was inspired when I first read webhostingstuffs promise:

http://www.webhostingstuff.com/our_ranking.html

Unlike some dubious “top 10 hosting sites”  that promote web hosts based on affiliate commissions, our fair and honest ranking system helps visitors find the real top web hosting companies.

Despite the fact that on webhostingstuff rankings are paid for – I had to laugh to myself, because Micahel Low was doing just that with hostaz.com.   His site hostaz.com has 10 top hosts 8 of which are probable through commission junction or directly through the hosts themselves.   Though I have to wonder why not go through Commission Junction when there seem to be too many problems with being an affiliate directly with a webhost.  By Micael Low’s opinion hostaz is a dubious site.  I have to wonder how many people that click on the top 10 realized that.

I honestly thought this site was owned by someone in Arizona when I first heard of it.  I should have looked at the whois information:

Domain name: hostaz.com

Registrant Contact:
   W3Centric Network Pte Ltd
   Michael Low ()

   Fax:
   9 Bukit Batok Central Link
   27-10
   Singapore, SE 658074
   SG

I would not be surprised between the two webhosting review sites that there are more that he runs.  When you look at the commissions that many host pay out there is a lot of motivation to make a webhost look better then they really are.

How much does Michael Low get paid per referal at HostAZ.com

All but two sites are listed on Commission Junction, A2 Hosting and Green Geeks.

Lunarpages $95.00
ix web hosting $50 – $150
justhost $100 – $200
fatcow $110.00
a2 hosting $85.00
hotgator $100 – $200
green geeks $50 – $100
bluehost $90.00
hostmonstor $90.00
startlogic $125.00

The dollar figure is per sale, every time someone clicks on one of these ‘top 10’ and buys hosting Miachel Low gets a rather huge chunk of change for no real valid reason.  Its not hard to believe the only hosts for consideration for being in the “top 10” are hosts that have a nice pay out for just one click.   There is little work done to put a host in the top 10 or in their directory.

How does Hostaz prove to you that their top 10 are the best hosts

They simple do not prove any thing.  The editors do nothing more then echo simple details that can be found on a page.  Anyone can do that, the details they provide can be repeated by anyone that bothers to go from host to host.  Or better yet goes to cj.com and looks up hosts to promote.

According to them:

Our Top 10 Hosting Chart features the top 10 website hosts reviewed by our editors. From web page hosting to web site hosting, HostAZ.com tm offers webmasters a concise and useful web site hosting directory that busy webmasters can use to quickly find the best web hosting service to host their websites.

There is not much detail to what their “editors” review.  Looking at their review on Lunarpages:

Lunarpages is just their top host, and it reflects all the hosts that they “reviewed”, The moving blue arrows on the site are put there to inspire someone to click to the top 10 hosts where they get you to buy hosting.

Why trust hostaz?

First of all they are not hosted on any of the top 10 hosts that they recommend.  Why should you turst a host that they are not willing to use? I have more reason to trust reviews at Amazon.com in regards to a book I am about to read.   You get far more details in the initial review, and then you get reviews from consumers that bought the book. I don’t get many details from this site only cost per month, but no mention of how long I have to pay for to get that price.  No Set up, regardless that most hosts don’t charge a set up fee these days.   Disk space and bandwidth, and platform.   Nothing to mention how fast you can get support, methods of support.   Not to mention reviews from other customers.  There is no reason to trust hostaz, because they give no information to prove that their top 10 are better then any other hosts.

Webhostingstuff- 25 hosts exposed

My blog first started with a review of Webhostingstuff’s top 25 hosts.

https://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/webhostingstuff-com/michael-low.html

As of last week I completed a review of all 25 hosts that pay webhostingstuff for their positioning.  I honestly had hoped to finish before the end of June.  But in the end I found there was a lot more to most of these hosts that I would have imagined.  Some of the most damming details came directly from the staff of the hosting companies.  Some took far deeper digging and rethinking of what to look for as it was not always the same with each host.

I wanted to prove that the hosts were not worthy of being in the top.  Little did I suspect that it was far worse then I first assumed, and perhaps I should have started this blog a lot sooner then when I did.  Even though its becoming growing knowledge that this company that claims:

Unlike some dubious “top 10 hosting sites” I7net that promote web hosts based on affiliate commissions, our fair and honest ranking system helps visitors find the real top web hosting companies.”

The same person that owns webhostingstuff.com, also owns hostaz.com a site that is based on Affiliate Commissions.  The name of the owner is Michael Low a resident of Singapore. Hostaz.com, webhostingstuff.com is based off of paid per rank.  Which is far worse then any top 10 thats based off of affiliate commission.

The summary that comes to mind with webhostingstuff

Some websites were put over night Ioxhost comes to mind

Two of the hosts were owned by the same company: Ipage and Fatcow.  Meaning I need to look further into The Endurance International Group, Inc.

There were a lot of hosts offering over the top affilate payments. ipage, fatcow, hostgator, site5,….. pretty much half the sites I reviewed.  Many whose own affiliates that drowned out negative feed back only to benefit the hosts.

Some are out of date in their design netmar, LFC hosting

Two hosts were not even worth the effort, Mochahost (terrible customer service behavior) and 2GB Hosting (7 day guarantee).

Is there any truth with webhostingstuff?

The one thing that I am almost certain they do not modify is the uptime monitoring.  With cloud.bg and i7net.net (not an actually May 2010 host, but June 2010),  Uptime which should have been a factor in rather a host belonged in thetop 25 position.   But even the uptime is suspect, as the hosts that had bad uptime are were lower levels of the top 25.  Perhaps future monitoring of their top 25 will tell me more.

Why do people still trust webhostingstuff?

This is almost like arguing with my mother, often when it comes to an argument such as gender is determined by the male of our species (go Y chromosome), she will quote some one she found on the internet as evidence that I am wrong.   Some reason those sayings my grandmother, her mother did not come to mind to her.  Buyer Beware, You get what you pay for, there is a sucker born every minute.  I guess you could say the pearls of wisdom jumped a generation.  But there are those out there that think of search engines as fact finders.  That is what webhostingstuff is counting on, and they think a few claims of being fair and honest are supposed to make up for the lack of truth.  But this is from the same company whose own interguity page:

http://www.webhostingstuff.com/our_reviews.html

They claim:

To build a fair and honest ranking system, ranking is always performed automatically by the system – free of human interference.

However just below that is the very sentence that tears apart that very statement:

Human editors are also needed to maintain the high level of integrity of our trusted reviews. Webmasters and system administrators are needed for the smooth running of this large site.

No matter what I do there will always be someone that trusts webhostingstuff regardless of what they do.  Needless to say I am not done, every new host that signs on to webhostingstuff is subject to my review.
