Mochahost.com is the worst host? Check this review out before you buy!!!!

If you were to mention Mochahost.com to me, the phrase “like shooting fish in a barrel” comes to mind. They may be the worst one that I have found, defiantly worst out of the first 7of webhostingstuff.com top 25 hosts you should avoid. This indeed the first host I find valid complaints with just “mochahost sucks”

The first of which I looked at:

http://hostjury.com/reviews/mochahost+

Shamefully this is one of the Mochahost.com’ staffs responses to a customer:

Mr. Voorhees,

Before we respond to your actual review I have to say that we are shocked that a person who is associated with a Christian church is actually making false statements, lies, and means harm to others. We are sure that this behavior is not what they teach at your church “Colber Church of Christ” and are 100% positive that the Bible does not teach you how to harm other people and how to be a liar!

We should probably contact the teachers at your church and warn them about what person you are actually are?

Bottomline: Don’t ever bring a person’s religion in to business, and for that matter use it to shame a customer. This is wrong on multiple levels.  Stick to business. But frankly I think there is little weight with this Mochahost Representative claims that Mr. Voorhees is a liar. As it seems he / she is the one who is trying to cover up complaints against the land slide of complaints for this company. I would chalk this one up to just a disgruntle tech if I did not see more counter complaints of the same nature against other customers.

Mocha host even has negative reviews on amazon.com, which I think is rather weird

http://www.amazon.com/mochahost-com/product-reviews/B0001WRHDA/ref=cm_cr_pr_link_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

And there is more:

http://www.web-hosting-top.com/web-hosting/web-hosting-top.mochahost.com/type/add-review

http://www.vistainter.com/reviews/M/mochahost.com/

http://www.webhost4lifereview.com/mochahost-web-hosting-reviews-coupon-code/

They have a C rating at the moment with the Better Business Bureau, though from some posts it was d – and f.

http://sanjose.bbb.org/Business-Report/Mochahost-235786

Even Webhostingstuff.com can’t hide all the negative reviews for Mochahost.com that are pouring in for the last 30 days.

http://www.webhostingstuff.com/review/MochaHost.html

Just to be on the safe side I figured I will copy a sample of those complaints in the last 30 days just in case.

Only Hostingsthatsuck.com is the only one without negative reviews for Mochahost, or do they?

http://www.hostingsthatsuck.com/mochahost-sucks/

Clearly they did not do enough research as all of what I found in regards to complaints greater then 10. Thats unless you scroll past “So our verdict: Hostingsthatsuck.com Recommends MochaHost for beginners “, You find:

Updated: Due to the more recent negative comments and feedbacks from our visitors, we are now also recommending an alternative hosting plan byInMotion Hosting. See below for their custom-fit packages priced from only $3 monthly! You pay for what you need and all packages come with cPanel and eCommerce-ready support. Our InMotion hosting review is as good, if not better than about the above webhost. If you have any doubt at all about the above web hosting service, get inMotion hosting instead. If you are asking for another webhost recommendation, inMotion hosting is your answer.

They did not bother to remove their glowing review, and still have a coupon to use to buy hosting from this company. Looking through there is only one thumbs up review, which I suspect was planted by the hosting company.

So you say Mocha Host has awards (Well three awards)

One of which is from C/NET:

My Finale Thoughts

I think its safe to say that I can close on “mochahost sucks”, there is not point in going any further because I found all of this information in less then 20 minutes. I spent the last 2 hours in reviewing it, and there is still more to review. I see lots of complaints about them not paying their affilates, and there are not a lot of pro mocha host sites that are using sucks as advertising so I have to wonder if they are true, Like Arvixe Web Solutions, I am bothered by the hostile response to customer complaints. It was simply uncalled for, and worse then Arixe. Going after a customer based on their religion, race, gender, country, and sexuality is simply off limits of any good company. I think it could be possible to forgive a company for a lot of negative reviews, but such an attack is not that easy to forgive.

MOCHA-HOST IS terrible, IT REALLY SUCKS, IT IS NOT A COMPANY, IT IS SHIT, ALL MY WEBSITES ARE NOT WORKING 7 HOURS AGO AND NOBODY REPLIES TO TICKETS. THE GIRL ON THE CHAT (THEIR BABY SISTER I THINK) DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING. I asked them at least to let me access my files to move to other web hosting company, they said “we can not assist you with this” WTF ?!?!?!

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS GOD DAMN COMPANY

  2. Hi!

I am opening a campaign against mochahost, can I quote this post and link to it?

  3. Hello Ikar,

Sure I have no problem with you quoting this this post, just make sure to link to it. Frankly their customer service is seriously in need of change.

Also post your link here to your content.

  4. Mochahost really sucks they are SCAMMERS…

  5. The worst company ever. Not professional and not respecting their customers. I lost 700 USD for a VPS that was mis configured since the beginning. Stay away from them!!

  6. Hi George,

I would like you be the first to post your story on my new forum at http://hosting-reviews-exposed.com/forum#/

This is defiantly one of the worst hosts that I have reviewed.

    MOCHA HOST IT’S A BIG S&$T !!! A F*%$N SUPPORT AND A BIG MESS IN THE HOST

  8. Hello Fabrice,

I do apologize for the censoring, but I do want to try and keep the blog from turning into something that amounts what I do with bad suppliers like you just did. Though in general they get to hear me cuss like a sailor.

I would love to hear your story behind Mochahost.

    Regards,

    Benjamin

  9. i did my research before paying these people (mochahost). in fact i chatted several times with i guess their sales chat live chat thing. one particular thing that stood out before i was even a customer of this company is i asked some basic questions… one in particular was funny. i asked “does your plan1 vps include a control panel like plesk or etc and can i ban ip addresses with it?” the first response was “why do you need that?” i then said “your asking me why i would need to ban a ip” response “yes why do you need that?” “just call us” i was like uhm no im not going to have to call you every time i want a ip banned! i run my own servers in my own datacenter right now (small) and i ban ip addresses daily! good grief. she then said “you don’t need to ban ip addresses” “again why do you need that?” i closed the chat. i ran my own servers for 10 years and don’t have time to play administrator/monitor anymore so thats why im looking for a company. their answers were odd. after looking at their BBB rating and reviews im glad i avoided them. thanks for taking the time to make your review here. good info/advice.

    Hello Ben,

It sounds a little weird that they need you to contact them to block ips. When I was in the hosting industry I know we had the capability to block ips on shared accounts. Granted not everyone used the function, but there would come points where you would want to block ips like in cases of forum spamming, abusive person, or frequent fraud attempts. With that said I was not a tech, but I can defiantly understand the need to block an ip.

    Regards,

    Benjamin

    @ Ben

Good for you, I decided to give them a chance and was tempted by the low prices despite the ratings, and lost money.

Given you’re a hoster with a VPS plan, it’s ridiculous to ask WHY you would want to ban an IP…

  12. Hello Ikar,

Did you ever get that campaign going?

    Benjamin

Nope, new job devours my time, and what’s left of it is spend on longterm projects, and I really like to sleep sometimes. So it had died before it even started.

Mocha Host really sucks, their TechSupport is full of Mechanics who are trying IT as a career change.

I would not recommend MochaHost to anyone, if you want to save your money please don’t go with MochaHost.

Here is my email address, mail me and I will send you the support tickets that show how incompetent MochaHost really is : (email removed by admin)

  15. Hello Vishal,

I just sent you an email you can send the support tickets to, thank you in advance.

The support of 24 hrs. that Mochahost announce does not work. The person of chat is prepared to give automated answers and to send ridiculous links to the help pages. Then, the chat person recommend to send an e-mail to the Support Team. The Support Team responds only 1 asks each hour, where the answer can be: ” Could you explain your problem better ? ”

Finally we lost all the information of our site and the Support Team was decided not to respond more to our shouts of help. Then we decided to cancel the account, knowing that we will had to pay an additional month due to contract reasons .The worst thing was that after months we verified that Mochahost.com continues charging us the service in spite of to be cancelled.

We have sent them all the documentation that they indicates that we came in due course to the cancellation of the service and following all the rules that they themselves asked to us to follow. But they insist on sending e-mails almost automated acquiring every month. This seems to me a very serious swindle. Today I will have to speak with the executive of my bank that they stop any charge of Mochahost.com to my credit card.

Another point to consider, is that Mocha Host offers very cheap prices, but does not emphasize in its announcements that the clients must pay an additional cost to enter as user. In the first month, we had to pay 84 dollars, but they generated 2 invoices, one by 84 dollars of the first month service, and a SECOND INVOICE of 84 dollars more, due to an additional collection that they call “Signup” cost.

  17. I have worked with a number of Java hosts, and so far I only like Mochahost and eApps . I haven’t had any problems with Mochahost. eApps is good but I can’t afford it. Mochahost lets you run multiple Java sites at a decent price. So far, my experience has been fine.

  18. Benjamin /

    Hello Mark,

Do you have any sites that have besides the one you listed in your comment that have been active for more then a month with Mochahost?

http://www.webhostingstuff.com/category/Unix-Linux-Web-Hosting.html Rates them as the 3rd best pick for shared linux hosting.

I’m getting so tired to digging through friggin affiliate spam and faked reviews pertaining to hosting. So this seems to establish that mochahost is not the way to go.

Who is … recommendations for resources on finding hosting that is actually worth anything ? Atm .. I’m considering Arvixe Web Solutions and the ever popular hostgator. Any feedback on those hosts and/or anyone who’ll point me in the right direction to find quality hosting ?

I’ve done the google, the web master forums, groups online, the BBB, etc. etc. etc. Shouldn’t be this friggin hard to get information. 5dys ongoing … back to it, sighs.

  20. MrSmith, it highly depends on whatever you need the hosting for. But! whatever it is, I wouldn’t recommend Mochahost.

  21. MrSmith /

    Update:

Yeah seems like there’s many “review” sites around selling top spots to any web host that’ll pay them for a ranking. Guess mochahost is one of them.

I’m sure they’re one of the “unlimited” everything hosts too. Unlimited, as long as you stay within these strict limits, lol. Otherwise we shut your website down. etc. :/

  22. Craig /

They are DISGUSTING, PITIFUL, I could not log onto cpanel ONCE. Everytime I contacted support I got the run around. Everytime I had to email in, I got the same email reply asking for the SAME information. When I called the support person an idiot and cant they just read the support tickets because I have given them ALL THE INFORMATION FOUR TIMES ALREADY they cancel my contract for “Abusive behaviour”

I emailed their VP of customer service – “Ann Hudson” although I doubt thats her real name, after at least three emails to her without a response, she emails me to inform me that my account is being cancelled due to abusive behaviour.

I have told them I need to transfer my domain as it is a business domain we will see what happens.

As it is now I have lodged a formal complaint at Trust Guard and I recommend each of you do the same.

Mochahost is an unprofessional organisation who have predatory terms and conditions that will not hold up in any court of law and it strips consumers of all rights that they have – and leaves them in the clear so as to take your money, but do not have to provide a service.

I for one, will not stand for such a company.

Any one wanting to go after them – count me in

  23. Mocha made me VERY nervous today when my big name credit card company declined the purchase of a mocha hosting VPS plan. Was that my credit card company’s way of telling me to stay away from these guys?

I spent all day researhing VPS providers. Now I’m back to square one. The best I can figure after a day of research is that I should pay $40-$50/month for 20GP storage, 1 Gig ram and 1 gig speed. Does that sound right?

I don’t resell. I just want to host half a dozen of my own domains. Moderate traffic. Heavy use of perl scripts.

    Any suggestions on a host?

    Ralph

  24. Benjamin /

    Hello Ralph,

I would not judge Mocha host based off a declined charge from the bank you have a credit card with. From time to time credit cards can be fickle. Like a few years back when I took my parents to lunch, and my card was declined (I made the mistake of only keeping one on me). For months after my mother worried that I needed money. Turns out Capital One put a freeze on my card because they thought their was unusual activity. Some how my Friday routine Quizno’s was unusual.

While I can not recommend a host at this time, I will say that your budget is far more reasonable then most I have seen.

    Regards,

    Benjamin

  25. I am deeply concerned about the services that I have received from MochaHost.

To begin with, I was conned into using your free trial by a sales agent that told me I would be able to carry out services with your VPS that your company doesn’t even provide. When I was having difficulty getting my VPS to work properly your agents upsold me, again promising that I would be able to do things with the VPS service that are not even possible. I was lied to two times by agents who were just trying to sell me your products.

When I finally discovered that I would not be able to complete my plans using your services I had lost 3 weeks of valuable time when I am already on a tight schedule (3 weeks!). So I requested a refund and was informed that I would not be getting the full refund back. I reported your company to the Better Business Bureau and they should have contacted you concerning this issue last week so please check around with the other managers so that you can become up-to-date with how this problem is evolving.

I was told that I was only getting a partial refund (thank you “no-risk” guaranty) and the refund finally got processed through my bank this morning. Unfortunately, I also got a monthly charge appearing on my bank account this morning for another $25.95 and 8 more emails (directly from your billing dept) saying that I should be expecting more charges to come. These unexpected charges put my bank account into over-draft so now I am looking at an additional $50.00 fees due to your company’s incompetence. At the moment I am going to need another refund for $75.95 to make up for these mistakes.

These were unauthorized charges and I have many support tickets to prove that my account was supposed to have been closed a long time ago. Am I going to have to escalate this matter to a lawyer?

  26. Benjamin /

    Hello Frank,

Just to be clear your comment is directed at MochaHost. and not hosting-reviews-exposed.com right?

I want to make clear that in now way is this site associated with MochaHost.com.

    Regards,

    Benhamin

  27. Makes sense to pay for only 3 months. Otherwise they block everything. They require a transfer to another plan. No access to data and statistics, the control panel. Your letters do not respond. Just go to an expensive plan. The contract for 3 years is not overturned. money is not returned.

They erase user data. 14 GB have been erased during the day, after the download. They did not find a link to the data on the main page.
They control the data and erase them. Who Disagree – disconnected. Again, do not access FTP HTTP control panel.
The downloaded data must have a link on the site, otherwise data is lost. And all my account is blocked.

MOCHA HOST SUCKS BIG BIG TIME. They deleted 60gigs of heavily production data from my account stating that i had it on there for storage reasons.

I said I can remove some of it but the this idiot known as Val T. in the company says he cannot as its deleted permanently.

  29. Benjamin /

    Hello Shivalik,

A few questions in regards to your account.

    What package did you have?
Did you read the terms of service?
The 60 gigs of heave production data was it active site content?

First off I can not state it enough, if your data is valuable back it up.

Use the hosting companies back up services.
Buy software to back it up.
Get a usb drive for that purpose.
Manually back it up to ensure you have a valid back up.

When it comes to data I back it up where ever I can. At worse I may lose 24 hours of work.

As for the terms of service

    http://mochahost.com/tc.php

    Section 12 states:

Hosting space is intended for normal use only, and is limited to Web files, e-mail and content of the hosted Web sites, not for storage of media or other data nor for the sole purpose of mass email/solicitation. Hosting space may not be used as offsite storage for electronic files or for third party electronic mail or FTP hosts. You are responsible for removing any files which do not meet these requirements, and for adhering to any hosting space (disk usage) limits allocated to your account(s). Failure to do so may result in removal and deletion of such materials, and/or in discontinuation of your services or account. MS SQL remote management/connections: the provided remote connection interface is to be used with the purpose of managing your MS SQL database remotely and NOT for the purpose of using our MS SQL for remote SQL storage for other sites/applications – violating this rule will result in account suspension.

  30. I thought I should follow up on my comment from Nov 20, 2011.

Since the process of finding a host and trying to deterime which reviews are real is so difficult, I just went to G*daddy and purchased 6 months of VPS service, 1gig ,1gig ,10 gig. It’s cheap and easy (30 bucks). They helped me set up the server, c-panel, and w-panel. I had to wait 24hrs for them to activate my account but once that was done, they made everything easy. They even called me on the phone the next day to make sure everything was okay (or maybe to check to see if I gave them a real phone number?). At any rate, I’m happy so far.

I moved 6 sites from two other hosts, webhostingpad and imagelink, because they had become so slow. It was like someone threw a switch one day and slowed the sites down. I use a lot of perl scripts. One of those hosts also sent me an email telling me they were going to charge me $10 per month for every 10,000 files on my site. I had 100K files because of a flat file DB :( I had been with one of them for 11 years the the other for a few. I don’t think they understand business 101, it’s easier to keep a customer than it is to find a new one.

So my sites are running at light speed now on the VPS at godaddy and I’m a happy camper.

I’m just a hobby site administrator though, not a heavy user. My sites are not commericial in nature.

    Ralph

  31. This is to inform to the general public against Mochahost company which is run by *removed by Benjamin* and company is a registered LLC in California USA. The company claims 100% uptime and also shows lots of awards and certificates for their superior support and hosting but in fact this hosting company is one of the worst hosting company, I have ever seen in my life.

I bought a business hosting account from this company around a month back. For the first two days everything seems to be fine.
The company showed me so many awards and certificates and their response was fantastic before the sales was made.

I was also happy with the way, their sales team gave me the response.

Before buying the hosting account, I made it clear to the hosting company that this hosting account will be used to show the web-development work to my clients on whose projects we would be working.

I also told them that my hosting account must be online 24X7 coz my clients are from different geographic locations, the sales team of mocha host assured me that they would offer me one of the best hosting servers and will ensure that I do not have any problem, In return, I also told them that I will also ensure that all my customers buy the hosting from their company.

But the real story now begins

    1. Every single day, my hosting goes offline for 1-2 hours.
    2. When ever I try to import some heavy database on my website or has some extra visiotrs, the website always use to tell me that I have exceed server resources.
    3. Most of the time during the peak hours, the websites always use to show bad gateway and gateway time out.
    4. Recently they asked me to upgrade to a VPS server by paying 30 USD per month additional to the company, I did some internet research on this company and found that Mochahost use to do the same with all their customers and finally I asked to cancel my hosting account

In this regard I have made several complaints almost daily to the team of mochahost either via chat, or via email and also to their support ticket system, I also have had a discussion with the Customer Quality and Customer Support Vice President Miss Ann Hudson about the same, how ever I doubt if she really exist or if this is her real name.

She also ensured me that there would not be any problem in the future and kept on wasting my time.

When ever I use to ask for my refund, the customer support staff, use to tell me that this is a temporary problem and will get resolved in next 2-3 minutes and always kept me waiting.

Today it has been more than 40 days and the problem still exist. I Have not seen any changes in my services and hosting account.

When finally I asked for a refund from this company, they are making the excuses that they do not have any authority to refund me the money and only their management can do that.

I strongly feel that the company is trying to make me fool by saying all this.

They are trying to divert the matter in some other direction.

I also have some more complaints against this company.

    1. The company claims on their website that they offer 24X7 customer support via their toll free number. I tried to call their company more than 20 times and tried different departments but every time the IVR use to tell me that the staff is busy with some other customer. Later the chat executive told me that they do not offer any support via phone and only offer call back service.

Now the matter arise that if the company offers only call back service, how their staff is busy supporting others customers. Why have they mentioned that offer toll free customer support 24X7. The company seems to be a fraudlent company.
    2. They have a parent company with the name mochain.com where there is no number, no address, no contact details.
Even in the paypal support, they have entered a wrong number and thus I feel, such kind of companies must be banned from doing the business and making others fool.

The real story begin after this, after making several complaints to the company, I finally decided to ask for the full value refund, I deserve a full value refund as I faced problem since the beginning, but company seems to be so greedy and denied me the full refund and told me that they will deduct the value of 2 months and will refund me in 7 days, I told them that I have faced problem since beginning and hence I deserve the full refund.

All of a sudden company blocked my hosting account and canceled my hosting account as well as the the support system, they even blocked my IP from their chat support.
Since last 3 days I am asking the company to provide me the full cpanel backup along with the mysql details but they are trying to play some stupid games with me telling me that they can only provide me the public_html backup and nothing more than that, I really do not know how they claim to be number 1 hosting company when they do not know that without mysql backup, php files are totally useless.

Now when ever I try to talk to them using some other internet connection, they keep on repeating the same two lines. Which can be seen in one of the copy and pasted chat with their online support representative KEVIN.

Now as per the above chat, it us very clear that I have not used even a single abusive word in the chat or something which is offensive, still the chat support asked me not to use the offensive words and immediately closed my chat, which made it clear that they are not at all interested to provide me the backup of my websites.

Now when ever I try to chat with their support staff online, company use to simply close my chat session without even listening to me.

Such kind of companies only harass the customers and nothing more.

I would like to request you to kindly look into the matter and take a strong, very strong action on this company and also put a heavy penalty on this company.

I am also worried about my data on their server, I strongly feel that company will try to harrass me by blocking my data on their servers. They know very well that my this data is really important for me and my clients and they will simply try to block this data and will harass me for this complaint.

I simply want a complete refund of my money which I paid to the company which is 88.20 USD and also I want a complete backup of my files hosted on their servers at the domain http://www.cmswar.org

Hope you will look into the matter and will take quick, strict and appropriate action on the same

    Nitin,

First off let me be very clear, while I have found things that have bothered me about this host, even I would not have put up with your behavior. I would have terminated your account, and blocked you from talking to my techs. Multiple times the person on the other end was civil in trying to tell you that you had the only back up they had. You in turn threaten him, which I am more than certain without reading their terms of service was a violation, which in turn makes a refund null and void.

On top of that if you showed this to a bank to do a dispute, chances are the bank will take the host’s side.

You have indicated what would ordinarily be a good thing to have posted here which was they had service interruptions. But things like the import of a heavy data base on a $88.20 account (what actual plan and terms were you on?) has me wondering if you might be the cause of your downtime. There seems to be some missing details about your complaint. Such as copies of tickets/emails. Like those emails from Ann Hudson, and you stated you had emailed support. The only communication I see is from a chat operator that could do only what any tech would do when they can’t provide you the solution you wanted. You treated him like he was somehow keeping your data from you.

They made it clear they only had only one back up. To be honest data, especially if it’s valuable it is your responsibility to make sure you have a viable back up. I don’t care if they say that they do a backup for you. I am assuming that this $88.20 you paid is for a year. You really were not clear on what plan or what terms you paid for. But in the cheap hosting industry accidents are more likely to happen. Mostly due to the sometimes chaotic nature of shared hosting, hundreds if not thousands of customers on the same system. The best insurance for your data that you can possible have in the case of disaster no matter the size of the account is to do your own backups. If a company cannot bring back the data they are not going to give you any more then you paid them, so if your data is worth far more than what you paid your host, I am sorry you will never get that amount back. This is another thing that is covered by the terms of service of most companies, something along the lines of not being responsible for your data. But it does not matter how much you pay, you have to treat people the way you want to be treated. Kevin refereed to your language because it was hostile.

To be honest I was not inclined to allow your post, but I wanted something to show people a point where I don’t back the customer. I wanted to show people what not to do, and seriously what you did was wrong. I may very well remove this as a comment and make it a part of a post.

I am not here to defend every customer. I am here to point to the review sites that lure people in regardless if the hosting is bad, just so they can make a payout. Sometimes I do take the customer’s side, like I did with a siteground.com customer this weekend. I confronted Siteground.com on their hostility to a customer, just look up siteground.com on this site and you will see what true hostility to a customer is. Siteground.com’s rep even admitted their chat operator was wrong and choose to deal with him.

Sometimes I do defend customers, and sometimes I go completely off topic and then times like today I am put in a very awkward position and I have to take the side of a host that I would not ordinary support.
    Regards,

    Benjamin

  33. Avoid this hosting like a plague.

The server restarts intermittently and we are not given any explanation why.

We just lost a potential client because the server went down 1 hour before our, demo. This is the final straw, we’re moving on.

    Mike
